Featured plant of the week: Acca sellowiana

Also known as the “pineapple guava,” the Acca sellowiana can easily become the star of your garden. An evergreen shrub from South America, this plant has silvery leaves and can thrive on a sunny window ledge or any other sun-filled area that is protected from cold winds. This plant can grow up to two meters in height. The acca sellowiana's main attention-grabbing feature is its flowers. It just looks so unusual, especially in northern climates. It adds a nice little exotic touch to your house's interior. Acca sellowiana fans have described its bloom in many different terms: gorgeous, amusing, exotic, colorful, and eccentric. One thing they can all agree on though-this plant's flowers are definitely unusual.

In addition to looking different, this plant's flowers can also be eaten and boy does it pack a nice flavor. Its blossoms taste a bit like candyfloss and is guaranteed to add a little bit of 'zip' to any summer cocktails. What's more, if the plant gets enough heat during the summer, it gives off small edible fruit which taste like pineapple.
