To best maintain the health and well-being of beautiful and valuable oak trees, pruning during the winter months is the recommended standard of care. According to David L. Roberts, Ph.D., Michigan State University Extension, “If oaks need to be pruned, the dormant period is best.” Similarly, oaks damaged in winter storms should be repaired during the winter months.
