Complimentary classes on Florida backyard fruit trees

The Collier County University of Florida's IFAS Extension will be holding a free workshop on how to manage backyard fruit trees. There will also be free tastings. The general public is invited. The workshop covers florida fruits like avocado, jaboticoba, grumichama, mangoes, and many others. In addition to learning about different fruit plants, workshop attendees will also learn about horticultural tricks used to keep these fruit trees in peak share. What's more, they will learn about pests that challenge these fuit trees and how to control them. In addition to learning about the fruits these trees produce, members of the public will get to sample fresh fruits and some fruit trees will be available for purchase from the Hopkin Tropical Fruit Nursery.

The seminar starts with one hour on mango culture and fruit sampling followed by an hour of Q&A. The next hour and half focus on a wider variety of fruit trees in Florida followed by more fruit sampling and Q&A. While the general public is invited, please reserve your spot in the workshop by registering at least three days in advance. Call 239-353-4244 or email Peggy at
