Dougherty Gardens, Inc. began as a plant stand in 1962. My grandmother started this to sell chrysanthemums that she grew in a small greenhouse. Eventually, my father went to school for ornamental horticulture at Delaware Valley College. After graduation he tried his hand at wholesale growing, and managing a nursery in Pennsylvania.
