I am posting this in the hope that it will help someone else avoid getting ripped off by Osborne Nursery in Plainville, MA as they totally misrepresent what they are selling. I needed to overseed several areas of my lawn so I ordered several yards of what was advertised on the Osborne Nursery website as screened loam. However, I am not exaggerating in the least when I state that what they delivered was the furthest thing from loam that I have ever seen, and it was completely unusable for growing grass.
Even people who do not work in the nursery business know that loam is distinguished by its mix of organic matter, sand, and clay which make for a very fertile soil with qualities that are very beneficial for growing plants and grass - those qualities include its ability to retain water and nutrients as well as the ability to allow water to flow freely.
